Farm Happenings for 11/17/2020: Update your product preferences with the seasons & Introducing Kennebec Cheesery

Posted on November 11th, 2020 by Daybreak Growers Alliance

Hello Farm Share friends!

We've got beets coming your way, great for roasted salads. Cut beets, toss with a tablespoon of olive oil. Bake at 400 for about 40 mins. or until tender. You could choose to pair with fennel (definitely not necessary!) toss with a tablespoon of olive oil, salt and pepper, cover and bake for 15 mins., uncover and bake for 15 mins. until browned and tender. Whisk any juices with red wine or balsamic vinegar and toss with beets (and fennel if using) . . . tossing in a few pieces of citrus adds a bright flavor . . . serve over a bed of fresh greens, sprinkle with crumbled goat cheese. Easy and delicious!

As you're planning your Thanksgiving meals we wanted to let you know that Daybreak will have lots of Extra offerings for you, keep an eye out for an email with our availability menu later this week!

Reminder that all Thursday and Friday shares the week of Thanksgiving will be delivered on Wednesday.

Check out the Extras section to customize your boxes with meat, artisan cheeses and bagels, all from Maine farms!

As we move through the seasons you may wish to update your product preferences in your Harvie account, in the middle of August maybe you weren't thrilled about kale, but now that November is here kale could be a welcome green on your plate. Below are a few tips for navigating your Harvie account.

How to update your preferences in Harvie

Under PREFERENCES in your account, you can select an icon from five choices to set your preference for the product from "Not for me" to "I love it". Easy as that, and then when the Harvie algorithm builds your box it will select your favorites from what's available.

Introducing Kennebec Cheesery

Kennebec Cheesery at Koons Farm is located on 100+ acres overlooking Messalonskee Lake in Sidney, Maine. Started in 2008, by Jean and Peter, out of a love of farming and a desire to keep the land viable and productive, the herd of about 60 Alpine and Saanen dairy goats and about two dozen Katahdin sheep graze on the 30 acres of pasture and hay fields. We handcraft small batch artisan cheese and yoghurt that reflect our family roots, bringing pastoral skills and recipes from New Zealand to our family farm here in Sidney, Maine. We believe that local farm economies are an essential part of a sustainable future and we are pleased to be a part of the local food movement in Maine.
