Farm Happenings for 11/10/2020: Seasonal favorite cream cheeses available! & Update from Bahner Farm

Posted on November 4th, 2020 by Daybreak Growers Alliance

Hello Farm Share friends! Our farm partners are busy harvesting their root crops before the hard freeze arrives so we'll have lots of storage crops for you all winter long as well as fresh greens that they're growing in greenhouses. This week we have seasonal favorite cream cheese flavors from Springdale Farm! And, it's apple pie season, there's plenty of apple varieties from the Apple Farm in the Extras section for your pie making.

Update from Bahner Farm

Like everyone else, here at Bahner Farm we are hustling to get ready for the winter ahead. All of our field crops are out of the ground, and now we're making sure that our high tunnels are ready to protect the ooodles of fresh winter greens that we'll be harvesting for you all winter long. We have kale, spinach, salad greens, baby lettuce and Asian bunching greens planted out and growing well. We're rushing to finish up the heated greenhouse that will be used to grow microgreens, pea shoots, baby bok choy, radishes, and baby greens during our coldest, darkest months. Our goal is always fresh greens, year-round.

We had a wonderful farm crew in 2020 and it's been bittersweet to say goodbye as most of them finish up for the season. Next week we'll be down from our usual crew of 10 to our winter crew of 4. It stays very busy for us all winter, but we do have shorter work days and more time with our kids, which makes it so much more managable. Winter is our favorite season - snow, skiing, sledding, fires in the wood stove and fresh greens? Couldn't be better.
