Week 16
We've passed the halfway point in this year's CSA growing season. The fields are slowly transitioning to Fall vegetable crops and we'll finally have a few new items reaching maturity this week, with more on the way. Our next melon planting is reaching maturity, however we're seeing lots of disease issues in the melons and are experiencing reduced yields as a result. Melons will be in shares this week as well, but limited numbers unfortunately. Growing melons into the later parts of August and September is sometimes a gamble; with cooler nighttime temperatures and rain or dew, the plants can experience conditions that are prime for disease development. We have another planting, after the present one, of melons that should mature in the next couple weeks, so we have our fingers crossed that the weather stays good and we can pick more for everyone.
