D&V Organics CSA

Week 15

We've been hard at work this week continuing to prepare fields and plant those fields with our Fall crops.  Because of the unpredictable summer temperatures, we plant into white plastic mulch, which helps to reflect the sun's heat and create a growing environment more conducive to the cool season crops we are growing.  For a period of time, we anticipate that the temperatures in August and the beginning of September will be too warm for some of our Fall crops, which prefer some cooler temperatures.  At a certain point, and depending on the crops, we will transition our planting into a black plastic mulch, allowing the soil to retain some of the day's heat and suns rays as the night temperatures begin to decline.  As mentioned previously, this is an exciting time of year because our crop selection and diversity will change drastically over the course of the next couple months.

Enjoy,

Derek and Crew
