Week 2 Winter/Spring Cooper's CSA Farm Happenings

Posted on November 17th, 2018 by Coopers CSA Farm

I'm not sure who asked for early winter but could you take it back please?

The cold snap is ending some of the remaining field veggies. Green onion and spinach are in limited supply. We do have carrots and cooking onions on the list and we were able to get a little bit of fresh cilantro. we have a good supply of green house lettuce as well.

The tractor in the pic is a 1964 Massey Ferguson 135. Its our family heirloom tractor. Steve's grandfather bought it new and it has been passed along through the generations so Trenton will likely get it next. It lacks modern electrical and hydraulic systems of newer tractors but it always starts and its really easy to fix. Its a small job tractor and it works really well for those small tasks.

Our pigs have been turned out onto the pumpkin patch and are feasting away. The pasture season has now ended with the snow and cold temps so we are feeding hay we harvested in the summer time. The cattle are also getting a little bit of spent brewers grain from our local craft brewery in Newmarket,  Market Brewery.

Some of you have noticed that your meat is not coming all in one shot on the same week. We decided to break it up a little bit to even out the work load, even out freezer space here and balance out our delivery loads. We are always trying to get a little more efficient.

Remember we like our boxes and red bags back to use again so please set them out or return them.

That's all for now. Talk soon.
