Week 1 Winter/Spring Cooper's CSA Farm Happenings

Posted on November 3rd, 2018 by Coopers CSA Farm

Welcome to the first week of winter/spring Cooper's CSA Farm shares. We are all hunkered down for the season ahead. Everything harvested and stored, equipment winterized and most of the animals set up in their wintering areas.

We've reached out to some neighboring farms to give a little more selection for your veggie share. Jan Hing Farms, for the fresh spinach and onions, Ryan Tindall for the broccoli or cauliflower (yet to be determined at time of typing), Sharon Mushroom Farm, and Links Greenhouse for the tomatoes and lettuce.

The pic above is of Kelsey (our manager of awesomeness - we dont know what to call her role as she does a bit of everything around here so we went with awesomeness) standing in red kale, a crop that takes the cold weather, most years we can harvest it right up until Christmas. You can see where we have picked earlier in the season and we just keep moving up the stalk. Kelsey was quite impressed with height of these kale plants.

We've moved our mamma pigs inside into their large farrowing pens. They are all due to give birth anytime. Our finishing pigs now have access to the pumpkin patch and are chowing down on the leftover pumpkins.

The cattle are still on grass grazing and will be for another couple of weeks. We are supplementing some high quality hay and spent brewers grain from a local brewery as the nutritional value of the grass is dropping quickly with the colder nights.

As always leave out or return any of our boxes and red bags. For folks picking up at the farm on Saturday the hours are 10am to 3pm.

Thanks so much
