Farm Happenings for June 3, 2022

Posted on May 29th, 2022 by Michael Hoke

We got our tunnel tomatoes planted, finally!  We hope you had a chance to plant your own gardens.  Our tomato plant sales were a success and we sold out of everything we grew!  Our greenhouse tomatoes are just getting started so we have a small number available this week and a lot more to come soon.

This week we have some exciting new crops from our farm.  Both bunched carrots and kale are available.  These are carrots that were planted in February and spent the first 2 months under a hoophouse (the same one that is now full of tomato plants).  We really try to stretch the use of these simple unheated tunnels to get as much from our growing season as we can.  We also have a larger quantity of baby bunched beets from our hoophouse and our first hakurei turnips of the season.

With warmer weather we expect that rhubarb and asparagus will be available for only a little longer (rhubarb is probably done after this week).

A few other things of note this week too:

- Booch is back in our store and now in cans.  This is an amazing local company and if you haven't tried their kombucha before it's really amazing.

- Fresh cheese curds from Gunn's Hill are available this week

- Spicy salad mix is back. This week it will likely be a blend of lettuces along with arugula and mustard greens.

- First eggplant harvest from the greenhouse!
