Farm Happenings for September 9, 2021

Posted on September 5th, 2021 by Michael Hoke

It almost feels like fall on the farm this week. Our sunny days are met with wind and cool mornings, and half of our crew has gone back to school. This is our last big harvest of cantaloupes for 2021, and they're bound to be delicious. We like to stock up and freeze The melon chunks for smoothies! We will have watermelons this week as well. Our cauliflower and broccoli will be on the pick list too! Lots of green onions will be coming out of the ground. They're great raw and chopped into dishes, but they're awesome in cooked meals too. We're offering quarts of mountain magic tomatoes, which are the perfect size for salads and snacking. We will have a lot of fennel available to add to your order this week. We'll be harvesting our first rutabaga of 2021! With the days cooling down, roasted rutabaga, celeriac, potatoes, beets and carrots make for a cozy and comforting fall dish. But if you're not ready for fall yet, we still have lots of hot peppers and salsa verde packs available to add to your box. Spicy mix is back on our list, which is a salad mix that will feature mustard greens and arugula.

From Great Lakes Farms, we'll have Gingergold, Paula Red, Sunrise and Zestar apples, as well as Bartlett pears. As a reminder, we will have NO BREAD THIS WEEK.

Thank you for supporting our farm,

Sarah
