Farm Happenings for August 26, 2021

Posted on August 23rd, 2021 by Chris DeVries

It's definitely hot, wet and sticky, but we're working with it! Our tomatoes are flourishing and abundant! The varieties we've grown this year are incredibly flavourful and amazing fresh or cooked into dishes. A large quantity of Napa cabbage will be available this week. These crunchy, crisp cabbages are perfect for stir fry and homemade kimchi! Kohlrabi and CGF broccoli are new this week. We've been waiting on these crops and we're super excited to harvest them. We've been trying to keep up with weeding, and we think it's working! Our carrots are the least weedy we've seen yet, thanks to all our work in weed prevention and maintenance. Big transplanting and seeding jobs are underway as well! One of our last field lettuce plantings will be seeded this week and with luck and good weather, we should be harvesting from it into late fall! All of our turnips and winter radishes have been seeded and we're waiting patiently to taste them again.

We will have it best peaches yet this week from Great Lakes Farms, as well as their new pears and early Sunrise apples. From Pfennings, we'll have more of that delicious sweet corn.

Thank you so much for supporting our farm,
Sarah
