Farm Happenings for August 6, 2019

Posted on August 2nd, 2019 by Jodi Danyo

New this Week:  Blueberries from Sand Hill Berries, Clarion River Organics' Sweet Corn, and Sunflower Bouquets (are back)!

We hope you enjoyed blueberries last week from our partner farms.  This week, we'll be getting some blueberries from Sand Hill Berries and also for the first time, SWEET CORN, from Clarion River Organics.

Did you know that we have our very own CVO Farm Market & Cafe?  It is located on the Panhandle Trail in Burgettstown, just about 3 miles away from the farm.  We are open Thursday through Sunday each week, and we have a selection of local farm products, our own produce and value-added products, AND a cafe with espresso drinks, our herbal teas, Millie's Homemade Ice Cream, and our organic baked goods, including homemade, organic pies (so you can eat pie-on-the-porch)!  All of this deliciousness is featured on our Facebook and Instagram pages, won't you friend or follow us?

And, go for a hike or bike ride on the Panhandle Trail and say hi to Katie and Emily in the shop!

This Past Week on Our Farm...

This week on our farm, we said good-bye to some of our wonderful early season helpers, Kitty and Jessie.  Thank you for all of your hard work ladies!  If you are interested in learning more about our small team, check out our brand new website at www.cherryvalleyorganics.com on our About Us page.

It is truly tomato season now!  All of the heirlooms are ripening now with some paste/plum tomatoes just starting.  We will be introducing seconds bushels for canning, freezing, or salsa-making this week!  Be sure to pre-order bulk quantities as soon as possible.  This week, we also said goodbye to the spring carrots, but beets are back and new rounds of squash and cukes will be coming online soon.  We have to keep planting to have continuous supply so even though it seems like summer is almost over, we will still be planting at the farm for continuous fall harvests for another 5 weeks or so.  Fall broccoli, cabbage, kales, collards, scallions, and leeks get planted this week!

Have a great week ahead everyone!
