Farm Happenings for May 26, 2021

Posted on May 21st, 2021 by Mike Finger

Hi, friends:  This week brings our second CSA harvest of the year, though for many of you who receive your harvest every other week this will be your first delivery of the season. We have a good selection of early greens and roots, plus we've added some Shiitake Mushrooms from Cascadia Mushroom Farm (Bellingham).

Please look over your attached harvest list for next Wednesday's delivery and remember you can further customize your harvest until 9 p.m. tomorrow (Sunday). So if you'd like to add products not on your list (from those listed in this email), increase or delete items, or add an extra item we are offering (see below) just click on the appropriate link in your harvest email and make the changes you want. Have you chosen your preferences, or updated them from last season?  Your preferences as set on your Harvie member's page really drive the composition of the share you receive every delivery.  So, it's worth your effort to set your preferences in detail and to utilize the customization period to finely dial in the contents of your share. You can set or edit your product preferences by going to your Harvie member's page and clicking the "Preferences" tab at the top of the page. Link: Members Login Page

Please confirm that the pickup site shown on your Harvest email is the site you intended to choose.  If this or anything else to do with your share seem incorrect, please contact us ASAP.

We are also offering a few extra items this week that you can purchase separately from your regular share (you'll need a credit card on file or funds in your "credits" folder).

** Cheese, Sharp Cheddar from Samish Bay Cheese, Bow

** Cheese, Goat Cheese, Lost Peacock Creamery, Olympia

** Fresh Pasta: Roasted Red Pepper Linguine from Bellingham Pasta Company

** Eggs, Organic produced by free-ranging hens at Misty Meadows Farm, Everson

And lest we forget:  Please take ONLY the box labelled with your name!  And, Please DO return your box (folded flat w/ no tears or crumpling please!) when you return for your next pick up. Or better yet, don't even take your box from the delivery site but instead unload your box's contents into a bag or basket or tote that you have brought with you for the purpose.  Being able to re-use these wax share boxes helps us control costs and reduces our trips to the landfill.

Salads ahoy!  Thanks so much for your membership and support.

This Week's Photo: One of our 3 houses of cherry tomatoes or slicing tomatoes, mulched in plastic and tied with string to wires 7' off the ground.  Over the next several weeks our crew will pinch out sucker growth and gently orient the central leaders of each plant upward.  And sometime several weeks down the road we'll be rewarded with ripe tomatoes and all that such a harvest makes possible.
