Farm Happenings for May 19, 2021

Posted on May 15th, 2021 by Mike Finger

Hi, friends:  Welcome to another season of the Cedarville Farm Fresh Choice CSA! We hope you all endured the winter ~ rain, slush, dark, social distancing, and all ~ and have emerged into this glorious spring ready for better and more congenial times.  And lots of salads of course.  For this first harvest we have a crop list written in green!  To our own farm grown products we've added Shiitake Mushrooms from Cascadia Mushroom Farm (Bellingham) and Leek Scapes from Ralph's Greenhouse (Mt. Vernon). Leek scapes are the thick and juicy flowering stalk of overwintered leek plants.  Tasting mildly of leeks they are great sauteed, roasted, and grilled. Any recipe for Garlic Scapes will also work with Leek Scapes. Here are a few recipe links you might want to try:

** Pickled Leek Scapes

** Sauteed Leek Scapes and Radishes

Please look over your harvest list for next Wednesday's delivery and remember you can further customize your harvest until 8 p.m. tomorrow (Sunday). So if you'd like to add products not on your list (from those listed in your harvest email), increase or delete items, or add an extra item we are offering (see below) just click on the appropriate link in your harvest email and make the changes you want. Have you chosen your preferences, or updated them from last season?  Your preferences as set on your Harvie member's page really drive the composition of the share you receive every delivery.  So, it's worth your effort to set your preferences in detail and to utilize the customization period to finely dial in the contents of your share. You can set or edit your product preferences by going to your Harvie member's page and clicking the "Preferences" tab at the top of the page.

Please confirm that the pickup site shown on your Harvest email is the site you intended to choose.  If this or anything else to do with your share seem incorrect, please contact us ASAP.

We are also offering a few extra items this week that you can purchase separately from your regular share (you'll need a credit card on file or funds in your "credits" folder).

** Cheese, Sharp Cheddar from Samish Bay Cheese, Bow

** Cheese, Goat Cheese, Lost Peacock Creamery, Olympia

** Fresh Pasta: Bucatini from Bellingham Pasta Company

** Eggs, Organic produced by free-ranging hens at Misty Meadows Farm, Everson

And lest we forget:  Please take ONLY the box labelled with your name!  And, Please DO return your box (folded flat w/ no tears or crumpling please!) when you return for your next pick up.  Being able to re-use these wax share boxes helps us control costs and reduces our trips to the landfill.

Salads ahoy!  Enjoy your first taste of the new harvest, and thanks so much for your membership and support.
