Summer Update

Posted on July 19th, 2020 by Tim Brown

Hi Folks, we hope this finds everyone doing well and enjoying the summer so far. We just wanted to update you and make you aware of some additional items available through the CSA. We have Chemical-Free Blueberries from Joe's Blues in Southern Michigan. If you haven't had Joe's Blueberries yet you are in for a treat. They are the best no spray berries around! You can add them on to your share or pick them up at select markets. We also have fresh peaches from Rendleman Orchard in Southern Illinois!! These are some of the best peaches we've ever had, and the Rendleman family has been raising peaches down-state for over 100 years. These are also available as an add-on item in your share or available at select markets. Get them while they last! We have fresh Pasture-Raised Chicken in our freezers as well. They are available through our online store at www.broadviewfarmandgardens.com you can order and pay there online and pick it up along with your shares. We are working on adding those to the Harvie but have yet to do so. These are fairly large chickens, averaging about 6 pounds. Our family of 5 can usually get three meals out of each one if you include bone broth. They are of great value and are delicious. If you haven't tried farm fresh pasture-raised chicken yet, be warned, it's a game changer.

Here in the field, we are replanting parts of the farm for the mid-summer and early fall crops. This is definitely the time of year when things get a little crazy with the long hot days and warm nights. The grasses are chest high in some areas, the birds and the insects are legion, and we are just trying to keep up with everything that needs to be done. Every day we are walking the rows checking for ripe tomatoes, and finally, we are starting to see them begin to change. We have pulled a few off to eat for dinner (quality control of course!) and we are excited about what is about to come. So you will begin to see those soon. The watermelons are really taking off and they are loading up with all kinds of delicious fruit as well. Again, we are excited about what is to come and we look forward to sharing it with all of you. We look forward to seeing you all at the market or here on the farm, thank again for your continued support!!
