Farm Happenings for November 6, 2019

Posted on November 4th, 2019 by Janet Aardema

And we now have frosted! The farm is coated in frost and plants are frozen. It is time. We were prepared. We harvested the last of the pepper and tomatoes before this cold settled in. Greens, roots, and cabbages, etc, handle it fine. We will continue harvesting these cold hardy crops.

We have also harvested our Winter Squash for you! Butternut and Acorn Squash are options in this week's share. Microgreens and Sugar Snap Pea Shoots have made a comeback to spruce up your salads.

This time of year we love making soups that include our cooking greens and root vegetables, and we love making Quiche/Frittata dishes packed with greens, roots, garlic, herbs, and even winter squash. We continue to serve a green salad with each lunch and dinner around here. We top our salad greens with the last of the peppers and tomatoes plus any roots or Microgreens or herbs that we have. There are so many ways to eat well!

Enjoy your options and stay warm!
-Janet & Dan, for all
