Gratitude

Posted on July 31st, 2021 by Danielle Boerson

As we tip over the edge of July and into August, I pause and hold my breath. I've gotta hold onto the moment while I can.

Summer is moving like a fast flowing river, carrying us along in a string of breathless days.  We are tired but grateful for the chance at abundance that the work has to offer.  The rapid growth of the vegetables and the pastures keeps us moving, day in, day out, the season through.

Note to self:  Cucumbers are the mightiest of all growers.  Wait an extra day and your back will pay!!  The lesson of the day: keep picking, don't delay!!

This past week a mighty storm blew through the area and many trees went down with the wind.  Our thoughts go out to those who lost parts of their harvest or their landscape because of that wild wind.  As fortune would have it, we were spared, and for that we are very grateful.

Looking ahead, this next week will be our last with crew member Evan B., who we've had the pleasure of working with for two seasons in a row.  Evan is about to enter his senior year of high school, but while he's been at the farm this summer he has shown us that there are incredibly dedicated, hard working young people out there who are curious about the business of growing food.  No matter the temperature, the job, or the duration, Evan has rocked it out in the field and in the pack shed all summer long, with a positive attitude to boot.  I am beyond grateful to have such a fine young man helping us bring food to your table.  If those beets or onions look extra beautiful, you can bet that Evan carefully washed and packed them for your eating pleasure!  We will definitely miss having him around.

But the show must go on, and so will the harvest.  Check out our bulk extras this week for summer canning and processing.   We have 2 lb bags of pickling cucumbers as well as 6 lb bags of bulk red beets.  These items can be swapped out for items of equal value or added to your order as extras.  Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for additional bulk canning items from the farm.  Let us know if you have any questions.

Your farmer,

Danielle
