Seeing Double

Posted on July 25th, 2020 by Danielle Boerson

Oh my, it's the end of July!  Did someone say, TOMATOES!?!?  This long-awaited crop is ripening at last, which makes me downright giddy.  It's been many moons since we enjoyed last year's ripe tomatoes.  And after much anticipation, we have officially begun our harvest of this year's fruits.  That includes the radiant reds, as well as the yellows, oranges, pinks and purples.  Big and small, smooth and pleated, these jewels of the green house beckon to me as I make my way into the tunnel with buckets, trays and my trusty pair of tomato shears.  Lift a leaf, find a treasure.  It's like hunting for Easter eggs; some are hidden while others stand out boastfully in plain view.  Work has never been this fun!  This new flush of ripeness is keeping us moving, especially in the context of the daily cucumber and summer squash harvests.  Look out!  Everything is putting on size by the day.  The speed and intensity of the ripening food is dizzying, so much so, that some days I think I'm actually seeing double...

One thing is for sure though, and that is our guarantee that you will enjoy the pop of color and juiciness that awaits you in your next box of goodies.  Even for those of you who don't get into eating tomatoes, there is certainly something beautiful and delicious with your name on it.

And by the way, for anyone who may be anxiously awaiting garlic, we have good news to share:  The 2020 garlic harvest is complete!  This past week we harvest 3600 heads of garlic, which means that dinner is about to get even better...

In the meantime, check out this week's recipes for fresh inspiration.  Here's to some great meals:-)
