The Faces Behind the Food: Keepin' it Fresh with Amelia

Posted on July 11th, 2020 by Danielle Boerson

When it comes to the produce, we like to keep it fresh.  But when it comes to the harvest crew, long-standing relationships with our crew members go the distance in building confidence, skills and efficiency.  Amelia knows all about this, as she has been a volunteer at Boerson Farm for 6 seasons and going strong!  On any given Wednesday morning, you will find her digging, bunching, picking and bagging some type of vegetable.  She can tell you how many kale leaves per bunch, how much a pint of peas weigh, and how much top to trim off an onion. Ask her if she likes the work, and surely she will tell you that she digs it.  Ever seen our Can You Dig It carrot t-shirts?  Amelia was the graphic artist who helped us turn inspiration into farm swag.  (BTW, we have a fresh, local printing of these 100% organic cotton t-shirts available for purchase at the farm.  Inquire if you are interested!)

Having reliable, consistent help is crucial on a vegetable farm, so we value our relationships with each member of the crew.  My hope is to help connect the dots between the produce in your share and the individuals who help bring it to your table.  We are all working together behind the scenes to bring you the most beautiful and satisfying selection of colors, textures and flavors we possibly can.  And speaking of selection, we are entering into the zone of the growing season known semi-affectionately as Peak Production.  This means that every week there are new crops entering into the line-up of your vegetable shares.  Depending on the volume of produce you ordered and the extent to which you have chosen to enter preferences into your Harvie account, you will see this selection shift and grow.  We encourage you to play around with swapping items in or out of your share if you are so inclined, as this will give you more control over what's coming down the line.  If you are perfectly content to be surprised every week, please feel free to continue letting the algorithm select your items.  Either way, check out all of the listed options just to make sure you are aware of everything that is currently growing.

In the meantime, we'll be doubling down with our faithful farm crew to keep the food moving from the field to your plate with as little time in between as possible.  Here's to keeping it fresh!
