Hello and welcome to week 7 of the CSA!

Thanks to all to came out to the farm this Saturday for the Annual Coop Farm Tour.  We had a nice turnout, loved seeing all the members and new visitors and did a lot of wagon rides!

We will be having a Fall Harvest Party this year, but have not set a date yet.  So if you missed this event and would like to come to an party at our farm...stay tuned!

Remember that you can add on our pastured meats to your share each week.  Check it out in the customization email!

If you would like to order Pork, chicken or our pastured meat share (which includes beef) we have lots in stock! If you order a share we deliver, frozen, either to a dropsite of your choice or to your home. Read more info and find sign up HERE

This week on the farm we got a surprise 3/10" of rain which made us pretty happy! The crops are looking good, as are the weeds!  The tomatoes are so close to ripening.  There is enough to give some people tomatoes this week but not all.  The sweet corn started to tassle and the peppers are looking good!

This week you might find in your box:

Curly Kale We usually hold out on giving you too much kale, but we wanted to make sure all shares (and half shares) got the chance to have it.  We'll give it to you again in a few weeks or so.  Keep in a plastic bag in the fridge.

Kale Chips

Green Beans- Another good green bean week.  This is a labor of love crop!  we love them seared with oil (or bacon grease!) and soy sauce and sesame oil.

Spicy Kale and Green Beans

Orange Carrots- These will keep for a long time in the bag, but they are very sweet!

Bunching Onions- Ailsa Craig onions.  These are a little smaller than I would like this year, but these are awesome for grilling, or fresh eating on a BLT or sandwich.  A little sweet, lovely onion flavor.

Head Lettuce/Spring mix-

Cucumbers- Another great week for cucumbers.  So far, no huge pest issues using our cucumber beetle pheramone lures.

Cucumber Salad

Celery- This has more flavor than your average store bought celery.  Use as you would other celery. Great in potato, pasta, egg or any other protein salad with carrots, onions, dill etc.

Thai Celery Salad

Summer Squash/Zucchini- A lot this week!  Freeze for zucchini bread when it is not so hot?

Freezing zucchini for later use

Broccoli or Cauliflower- This drought has not been so kindly on the brassica family.  We do not have enough of either right now to give each to everyone.  Both are great grilled and roasted. If you get the purple broccolini, use the whole thing!  So easy to chop, too!

Grilled Cauliflower

Eggplant- The eggplant is just starting.  We hope to be able to rotate it around to give everyone some in these next couple weeks.  It is so great with peppers (soon!), tomatoes, summer squash- in a ratatouille or veggie medley.

Ratatouille

Tomatoes (either cherry or large red) - Just beginning to turn!  More to come! Do not refrigerate tomatoes.

Green Cabbage- Nice compact, small heads. Lasts forever in the fridge, but you can use this in a quick kraut, salad or sauteed up with other veggies.

Quick Fermented Kraut

Savory Herb Bunch- Not the most common herb, but great with proteins and also in many sauces.

Savory Salt Recipe

Easy Green Herb Salad Dressing- try this one with savory and another herb?

black cap season, or "stained hands" season! They griw wild all over around here.

Before the tour pic is all I got!

Willem was representing Blackbrook Farm!

The honey bees are LOVING the zinnias!

Have a great week!
