FARM NEWS… the good news – we still have plenty of tomatoes and new cabbage.  AND a new patch of arugula – small and tender – compared to previous arugula that some may have considered tougher and spicier due to the heat.  So, the not so good news – we lost our broccoli.  It was scheduled to be on the table this week and for many weeks. The extreme heat and humidity for 2 weeks immediately followed by days of rain caused disease and rot beyond our control.  We are not the only farm in this situation; it is heartbreaking.  Looking ahead, on the positive side, we will harvest sweet potatoes next week, followed by carrots and spinach.  We hope the cauliflower will pull through as it matures later than the broccoli. Farming is hard work, physically and mentally; the weather challenges us at times beyond what we can tolerate and understand.  In 8 years of running this farm, we experienced losses and survived; it will not be the last either.  Despite our best efforts of managing crops, Mother Nature got the final word on the broccoli this fall.

PICK YOUR OWN... winding down.

  • FLOWERS (Zinnia mix) HERBS, MIX. 1 bunch each. Nice stuff out there, and it is good therapy:)
  • Green beans? Cherry Tomatoes? last week. No limit on beans or cherry tomatoes if you are interested. Does not count as a farm share item this week.

And so it goes, we get by with a little help from our farmer friends! It is not easy.

See you on the farm.
