CSA WEEK 13

Posted on August 26th, 2020 by Jennifer LaMonaca

HOURS: Thu and Fri 1-6 PM, Sat 11 AM-3 PM.

Fall is nearing, school is starting (sort of).  As the pandemic goes on, customers tell us the farm continues to be a safe place and stress reliever.  We are proud of the precautions we are taking to control the spread of Covid.  Wearing masks is tough, and we thank you for your continued efforts as we navigate all of this together.

From a farming perspective, Covid issues aside, it has been one of the hottest (and weediest!) summers yet. Great for heat-loving tomatoes, peppers and eggplant, a struggle for establishing fall crops.  With the intense heat, humidity and weed pressure, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach and others planted during peak summer had to be replanted 2-3 times over.  No worries, we still have these crops!  Just had to work extra hard for them.  Under "normal" growing conditions, we should be harvesting greens again, like kale and lettuce, but they are pushed back a week or 2.  As it gets cooler, next week looks promising, we likely will cut arugula.  And winter squashes, like butternut, are curing nicely.  Farm crew has been strong through the challenges and I am incredibly grateful for their efforts.  Thank a farmer.

From all of us at B&B Farms, we appreciate your support just as much as ever.  Despite the stress loads we are all under, or about to undertake with back to school, I am optimistic we can be successful.  Thank you for your seasons long commitment to eating local and taking time with us to find calm and balance for mind and body.  Be well.
