Farm Happenings for November 6, 2023

Posted on November 3rd, 2023 by Martie Buzby

Dear CSA Members,

We hope this message finds you well and excited for the arrival of a new crop! We are thrilled to share some fantastic news with you - Jersey Fresh cranberries are now in season and ready for your enjoyment.

Last weekend, Eric and I were camping near Tabernacle and enjoyed a quick visit at Pine Island Cranberry farm.  Even when we get away from the farm for the weekend we love to visit other farms! We love agriculture.  It was so neat to see the bogs, the different equipment and other Jersey farmers doing their thing.  We are excited to have procured the most vibrant cranberries ready for your CSA shares. These crimson gems are bursting with flavor and nutrients, making them a delicious and healthy addition to your seasonal produce.

To make the most of your fresh cranberries, we've gathered some delectable recipes that showcase the versatility of this wonderful fruit. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Cranberry Orange Relish: A classic and refreshing side dish that pairs beautifully with turkey, chicken, or pork.
  • Cranberry Sauce: Create your own homemade cranberry sauce, a must-have for Thanksgiving dinner.
  • Cranberry Muffins: Start your day with a burst of cranberry goodness by baking these scrumptious muffins!

Storage Tips To keep your cranberries fresh and vibrant, follow these simple storage tips:

  • Keep cranberries in a breathable container in the refrigerator.
  • Cranberries can be frozen for longer storage. Simply wash, pat dry, and freeze them in a resealable bag. They'll keep well for up to a year in the freezer.

Enjoy your fresh cranberries, and may they bring joy to your table and loved ones!

Warm regards,

Martie
