Peppers are here!

Posted on September 2nd, 2022 by Carly Richardson

Happy September! I can't believe it's already here, it feels like this summer has just whizzed by! We hope you are enjoying the transition to fall whatever that looks like for you.

On the farm we still have plenty to harvest, and we are only about half way through the CSA season so we have plenty of veggies to come for you! But we are in the transition season where amidst the harvest we are also starting to think about the fall and preparing to clean up the farm and get it ready for winter.

We are squeezing in our last few plantings, harvesting storage onions and curing them, taking down trellises from the beans, clearing beds of old crops and getting some winter cover crops in.

It is a busy time and a sweet time of soaking in the abundance, while also reflecting back and looking ahead.

This week we are saying goodbye to zucchini and cucumbers. There are a few left in the fields we will continue to send your way but for the most part we are wrapping up with harvesting them. In their place the peppers are starting to pick up! We have lots of hot peppers ripening and the sweet pepper plants are loaded with green fruit slowly starting to ripen up.

The hot peppers are most abundant right now, and we will continue offering small quantities of different varieties to spice up your meals. But if you want a taste of them all we would definitely recommend the bulk mixed hot peppers. A great option for making pepper jelly, hot sauce, pickles and drying!
