Meet your farmers!

Posted on June 23rd, 2022 by Carly Richardson

Happy Summer Solstice! We hope you are enjoying the swing to warmer summery temps this week.

This week I want to introduce you to our awesome farm crew of interns and staff for the 2022 season:

Madison (intern)

Madison is from Langley, and he farmed for the first time in 2021 before joining the A Rocha Ag team this spring as an intern. He loves making conversation while prepping beds for transplanting, as well as a good meditative weeding session. He can hardly wait for the first harvest of cherry tomatoes!

Sherry (intern)

Sherry is a farmer from San Diego, California. She fell in love with growing veggies after working with her grandma in her garden during the first months of the pandemic. She’s here to learn all she can about sustainable agriculture!

Tyson (intern)

Tyson’s from the Great Lakes region of the US (Wisconsin) and this is his first season farming! He loves eating veg and is excited to be learning to grow them too, with aspirations of starting his own farm in the future!

Nicole (intern)

Nicole was born and raised in Abbotsford BC. She thinks growing veggies is a beautiful pathway for connecting with people - both with those she works with and those who share in eating it. She has dreams to start her own CSA on her parent’s property in Abbotsford one day, and has loved learning the tricks of the trade at A Rocha this season.

Sabrina (staff)

Sabrina is returning for her second season on the farm. She is keenly picking up the “hands-on” skills of farming after studying regenerative agriculture in university. She brings enthusiasm and curiosity, always asking great questions whether it’s about our farming practices or deep personal questions to build connection within the team.

Hannah (Assistant Farm Coordinator)

Hannah is from Prince George, this is her third season on the farm at A Rocha and second in the role of Assistant Farm Coordinator. She brings incredible intuition and problem-solving to the crew as well as a ton of joy and beautiful laughter. Farming at A Rocha fulfills Hannah’s love of good company, tangible work, and being outdoors in God’s creation.

Carly (CSA Farm Coordinator)

I'm Carly and I am from California, this is my 6th season farming and my second as CSA farm Coordinator. I first connected with A Rocha as an intern in 2018 and am so happy to be back caring for this bit of land, sharing and eating great veggies, building community, teaching and learning alongside our interns and staff.

I hope you enjoyed seeing our faces and learning just a snippet about your farmers for the season. We are so happy to be growing your food and we hope to connect with you whether over email or in person throughout the season! On that note, we will be offering farm tours to our CSA community and we will send dates and sign ups out for that next week so stay tuned!

This week things are really starting to pick up on the farm and we will have the season's first summer squash available! As well as our first salad turnips, and cauliflower, and more broccolini. We are also offering garlic scapes from similkameen nurseries again this year which is great made into a pesto and can also be used just like you would a garlic clove.
