About the role

Own one department end to end. You place POs, receive and stock your product, keep items in stock, manage shrink, and drive margin. You will be assigned to a single department: Produce, Dairy, Dry Goods, Meat, or similar. 

Core responsibilities

  • Place POs to hit sales, margin, and turn targets
  • Receive, inspect, and stock product to standard (FIFO, temp checks where needed)
  • Keep pricing and promo tags accurate; basic merchandising
  • Track inventory accuracy; run quick cycle counts and date checks
  • Monitor OOS, shrink, and returns daily; fix root causes fast
  • Close lots on schedule using PO analyzer rules
  • File quality claims and coordinate credits with vendors
  • Report weekly KPIs and improvement ideas
  • Identify and onboard new producers 

KPIs you own

  • Net GM% and Net GM$ on sold-through POs
  • Shrink % at cost
  • In-stock rate by hours
  • Weeks of supply and turns (category appropriate)
  • Freight per case and receiving minutes per PO
  • PO cycle time to sell-through or close criteria
  • Fulfillment out-of-stock rate

Department notes

  • Produce: fast turns, tight temp control, aggressive rotation, farmer relationship management
  • Dairy: date discipline, space planning in cooler, steady turns
  • Dry Goods: inventory turns, finding new suppliers
  • Meat: cold-chain handling, yield awareness, strict QC

Requirements

  • 1+ year in grocery, produce, food distribution, or back-of-house ops
  • Comfortable lifting 40-50 lb and working in cold environments when needed
  • Spreadsheet fluent; accurate on counts, pricing, and simple reports
  • Clear communicator with vendors and teammates
  • Food safety basics. ServSafe or equivalent is a plus

Bonus points

  • Prior buying or receiving experience
  • Markdown strategy and simple merchandising
  • Basic SQL or BI dashboards

Important details

  • Base pay: Salary of $52,000/year, paid weekly.
  • Bonus: Weekly bonus tied to Net GM$ for sold-through POs after shrink and returns. On-target earnings: +10–20% of base annually (with upside for top performance).
  • Benefits: Health, vision, dental, 401(k) match, PTO, and 50% off your own Harvie box.
  • Schedule: Full-time with receiving windows, occasional evening vendor calls, and some weekend coverage where necessary.
  • Flexibility: You’ll coordinate with Ops for help, but you must be reachable for delivery ETAs or quality issues outside standard hours (rotating with the team; not 24/7).
