Farm Happenings for March 15, 2022

Posted on March 11th, 2022 by John Zilnicki

Happy Early St. Patrick's Day!  I hope you enjoyed your box of goodies last week!  We had some 1st box hiccups last week.  Our bread delivery was late and short 6 loaves of sourdough bread.  Also, when I talk to the vendors Friday they give me a rough estimate of inventory.  For most this is no problem, but for seafood this can be a real challenge.  As our local fishermen go off estimates, some days or weekends can be totally different from previous weekends.  We witnessed that this week as previous weekends had large amounts of porgies and this past weekend came up empty.  Also, regulation was changed about blackfish and the season will be closed until April 1st.  We made the decision to give everyone fluke (plenty of fluke out there) who ordered porgies or blackfish.  As we get further into March we will start to see more goodies available. February and March are the real tough months for produce/goods on Long Island.

I hope you have a great weekend and keep posting pictures and tagging us online to share the word.

Your Farmer,

John
