Farm Happenings for November 23, 2021

Posted on November 19th, 2021 by John Zilnicki

Happy early Thanksgiving!  It is my favorite holiday of the year! There is something about coming to the end of a busy farming season, getting together with family, making a feast from the bounties of our lands, and sharing a laugh with loved ones.  To the members that ordered turkeys, thank you, and these are fresh turkeys so they are ready to rock and roll.

We had a big week on the farm this week!  We shipped out about 65,000lbs of potatoes that will be distributed all over Long Island.  Greens are coming to an end as we usher in some cooler weather after a warm week that brought some weird weather (hail, winds, awesome clouds, and a full moon)!

As stated in previous emails, this will be the last week on the 2021 Zilnicki Farm Fresh regular season CSA!  We will be hosting pop-up CSA's between new babies in the family during the month of December.  We will be returning in January with full steam ahead, and maybe a few new gray hairs.  We can't thank you enough for supporting us this season as you are the reason we keep farming.  If it wasn't for our CSA members I really think we would close up shop here on Long Island.

I hope you have a safe, blessed, healthy, and amazing Thanksgiving!

Your farmer,

John

PS: I would load up on vegetables and freeze/blanch a bunch and stick in the freezer for the winter.  With the cost of food increase(its going to be nuts next year) we are preparing now and loading up our freezers for the cold months!!

PSS: Thank you again!
