Farm Happenings for October 5, 2021

Posted on October 1st, 2021 by John Zilnicki

Welp it's October!  At least the temps and humidity lowered to make it feel like fall.  We love this time of the year, (big flannel people over here), but their is something special about the cool crisp air on a fall morning and the warmth of the sun in the afternoon.  Yes, fall does mean extra traffic on weekends as many are out and about, but its a short season and we wish all farms/ businesses that have agritainment on the weekends the best of luck and for great sunny weather.  If you ever have questions about fall activities, please feel free to reach out and we can point you in the right direction, from apple picking, to farm stands, to breweries, to wineries, etc.

Potato harvest is in full swing and we are blessed with some beautiful weather for us to get them out of the ground.  The crop has been pretty good so far and we have a fingers crossed for the remaining 35 acres.  The only said part of the potato world is multiple wholesale buyers have told us they only bring in Canada potatoes, or Idaho now.  They will turn down local produce that will have less of a carbon foot print for a product that has to travel 1500 plus miles.  Its a sad part of the wholesale world and that is why we can't thank you enough for being part of our CSA and mission.  Honestly, without you supporting us we couldn't keep farming here on Long Island, so thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Your farmer,

John
