Farm Happenings for May 4, 2021

Posted on April 30th, 2021 by John Zilnicki

Yup May is here already! The days are long this time of year and they fly by!  It's my favorite time of year, seeing all the tulips, daffodils, and other flowering bushes and trees show off their bright colors.  We are almost done planting all our potatoes, about 15 more acres to go.  Other exciting news; the first sweet corn we planted has sprouted out of the ground!

For the members wondering about our potted plants, flowers, herbs, I recommend waiting until after Saturday to plant or bring plants outside.  We have kept lots of our plants inside the greenhouses because of this wind.  Wind can absolutely beat the crap out of a plant, and it can actually send the plant into 'shock' and hamper is growth and development dramatically.  The winds are extremely high but they are steady and this relentless pounding takes a toll.

This week we have some pork from Blue Sky Ranch.  We have some sausage links, breakfast links, pork chops on the menu.  The freshness and flavor can't be beat!

We have a few more weeks left of our Winter CSA and then we will be rolling into our main season CSA.  You will be getting some emails this week regarding rollover and a few add-ons that will be available like a fruit share and flower share.

Enjoy your goodies and your weekend!

Your Farmer,

John

PS: thank you for your patience on Tuesday's as we navigate the home deliveries.
