Farm Happenings for August 4, 2020

Posted on August 2nd, 2020 by John Zilnicki

Well this past week was a doozy.  Our main irrigation well broke Tuesday.  This is a real gut punch for us.  This is a major major hit financially, but also to our operations.  Luckily, we got a thunderstorm Thursday night that was a true blessing!  It came at a time of true desperation and we are extremely grateful for it!

Farm Happenings this week:

  • Well broke!
  • Random early morning thunderstorm brought an inch of rain!!!!
  • Thunderstorm was packed with 40mph wind so it did flatten our sweet corn but we will take the trade off!!
  • Keeping our eye on the tropics as Hurricane season really starts to crank up.
  • Wind is our real enemy as it can flatten our crops and bring salt burn ( wind off the ocean).
  • More fall plantings are underway to ensure yummy fall crops all fall long!

Side note:  I took an old Ford tractor we weren't using on the farm and gave it a fresh new paint job!  Yup, you guessed it, I turned it into a Pink Tractor and surprised my sister with the tractor for her birthday/wedding day!  It came out awesome and we had an amazing time at the wedding Saturday.  It was a special day and it went perfectly!  Make sure you check us out at Zilnicki Farms on Instagram to catch photos of the pink tractor and all our fun on the farm!!
