Farm Happenings for June 23, 2020

Posted on June 21st, 2020 by John Zilnicki

Happy Fathers Day!  I hope its a great day!  Sorry this email is getting to you a little later than I normally like.  Well, its DRY!! This is the driest pattern, conditions we can remember for this early in the season.  This makes us nervous because mother nature (The Boss) always finds a way to even it out and she will play catch up at some point.  Luckily she has blessed us with great day time and night time temps and kept the real heat away from us!  Irrigation is in full swing.  Its a constant job of moving pipe, re arranging systems, fixing 'old' equipment.  So the favor I ask is if you could do a special rain dance for us farmers out here!

Farm Happenings:

Potatoes are being Hilled up as we speak and their are starting to bloom!  Make sure you are following us on Instagram, Facebook, and even that TikTok as we share many videos of the day to day operations on the farm.

If you have a garden, make sure you are watering and "feeding" your plants.  This means, make sure you are giving your plants the proper Nutrition/fertilizer to stay strong and healthy.

Also, we are offering delicious Pound Cake from our neighbor, Angies Baked Goods.  It is a must with your Strawberries.  (Disclaimer on strawberries.. They have a shelf life of 35 minutes, as the sugar content is so high as soon as they are picked they begin to break down.  Although they become slightly mushy, don't through them out as they are perfect for toppings, or mashed, or for baking.)  To order Angies Pound cake you click on extras and will see the available product.  Next week we will be offering local Honey from my cousin at the Custer Bee Club and the Cutchogue Custer Observatory.  Stay tuned for more info!

Lastly, make sure we unplug from this crazy world today.  Enjoy our loved ones we still have here, and remember the good times with the ones that have passed.  Its easy to be sucked into the 'rat race', 'negative news cycle'.

Have a great day!
