Farm Happenings for June 19, 2021

Posted on June 16th, 2021 by Nicole Prins

Hooray! The beginning of the farm share season is here! We've been busy this spring! Planting planting planting. Spring began warmer and drier than normal, which meant we were on the fields earlier planting and just kept on planting since we never got rained out. However, we had a frost scare at the end of May that wasn't even in the forecast! Lots of neighbouring farms lost tomatoes and more, but our garden is on a hill and was untouched by frost luckily. The challenges of farming.

Unfortunately asparagus season wrapped up sooner than normal, so we will have no asparagus in your boxes this week. Asparagus had a rough go this season, with a false start early in April with the hot weather then a frost in early May and another frost at the end of May. When an asparagus field gets frosted, any asparagus above ground turn to mush, so a lost harvest. The season begins mostly with GREENS!! And there will be more to come soon.
