Farm Happenings for June 10, 2021

Posted on June 5th, 2021 by Nicole Prins

Asparagus season is coming to an end! I'm hoping to make it to next week, but this heat wave may end the season sooner than later. So load up now! Asparagus definitely had a rough season. They were frosted at the beginning and the end of May and it was a crazy dry May! It's a short and sweet season. On to other veggies now.

Strawberries are all flowering, which means not this week but most likely next week we'll have strawberries. Just in time for the first seasons subscription box to begin. Greenhouses are switching over from salad greens to tomatoes, peppers and eggplant. And the fields are filling up fast. Beans, beet, and carrots are germinated and the 2nd batches were seeded last week. Melons, zucchini, winter squash and strawberries (next year strawberries) were all planted last week. Leeks and onions are taking off now but need a good weed. And the garlic is looking gorgeous! I will have to post a picture of our freshly weeded patch! Nothing more satisfy!
