CSA WEEK 15

Posted on September 6th, 2021 by Lacey Arnold

It’s beginning to feel a bit more like fall around here – crisp breezy days, chillier nights, changing leaves, and apple-picking have arrived! Here on the farm, we love the crops that mark the transition into this new season. Hearty squash soups and stews, pumpkin and apple baked goods, and roasted root vegetables all help make the coming winter feel less ominous. Here at Warner Farm, pumpkins have been one of our specialties for a number of years, but last year, we had our very first apple harvest!

In 2017, we planted our first apple trees on the farm – roughly 2 acres of apple trees, or nearly 200 trees total! Last year, after a long and anxious wait, our Macintosh, Gala, Fuji, Macoun, and Cortland trees finally began producing juicy and flavorful apples. Next year, we hope our honeycrisp apples will be ready for their first harvest – a much-anticipated event. We are so excited to begin offering more and more of our own apples in the coming years (maybe we'll even have apple picking at Mike’s Maze)! For now, we hope you'll still enjoy the other activities at our maze, which opens this Friday, September 10th. Hope to see you there :)
