Farm Happenings for September 27, 2023

Posted on September 23rd, 2023 by Trent Loewen

This has gotta be the most beautiful time of year! I love the brilliant fall colours against the bright blue sky, and the invigorating feel of the crisp mornings!

The end of the season is rapidly approaching. The last deliveries are October 11 & 12, so that’s 3 more weeks. We’ve had a few light frosts already, just enough to finish the zucchini, pumpkins, and squash.

We’re starting to pull in some final harvests. The field tomatoes are finally ripening so I’ve listed them as sauce tomatoes since they are mostly romas, and they don’t have the quality of the greenhouse tomatoes. The sauce tomatoes, onions, green peppers, jalapenos, and hot Hungarian wax peppers are all listed per pound so go ahead and add as much as you’d like to your box. Most of the Carmen sweet peppers are not going to ripen, so they’re listed with the green peppers, use them the same as you would bell peppers.

It looks like we’ll get a harvest of cauliflower yet in the next week or two, and hopefully some spaghetti squash.

Your box will be built automatically with only produce in it but everything else is available to swap in. Besides the produce, there is beef from Barnes Creek Ranch, pastured chicken, fresh baking, handmade soap from The Sudsy Llama, pickles, and our homemade ranch dressing.

As always, if you have any trouble with swapping or anything else, you’re welcome to call/text or email. Trent - 306-883-8832, Lois - 306-883-9289. Also the folks at Harvie are happy to help, reach them at support@harvie.farm.

Have a great week!
