Farm Happenings for August 18, 2021

Posted on August 16th, 2021 by Trent Loewen

Lots of planes flying over here on the weekend! Our neighbors hosted a Fly In Breakfast Sunday morning, with quite a number of small planes flying in for that. We went over there for breakfast (thanks Harold and Marjie!), and to see the planes, including the Saskatchewan Aviation Museum's 1942 Tiger Moth biplane. Was great to do something out of the ordinary!

In the gardens, the flat head cabbages are now ready, they are perfect for cabbage rolls. The peppers are looking really good, too. We're picking Hot Hungarian Wax peppers this week since they're the first to ripen. There will soon be green bell peppers and jalapenos too. Due to a number of challenges, we are in a slump between lettuce plantings. The next harvest of lettuce and salad mix will be a week or two away yet. So for greens this week there’s kale and chard. The cauliflower is also growing slower than expected, but there is more coming yet.

Enjoy your week!
