Farm Happenings for October 7, 2020

Posted on October 4th, 2020 by Trent Loewen

This is the final week of farm shares! Other than for the early frost, it's been a beautiful fall! We're still digging potatoes and carrots, there's lots of salad turnips yet, and the kale is still producing. This week will clean out the lettuce and most of the salad mix. This is the last week for the tomatoes and cucumbers, as we'll be shutting off the heat in the greenhouse this week. There is some spinach and salad mix planted in the greenhouse but it remains to be seen if it will get big enough to harvest yet this fall. We have carrots in 5 lb. bags and onions in 10 lb. bags, if you want to stock up on those items. There are also a few storage cabbage left, they will keep in the fridge well into January. We may offer one-time shares occasionally this fall so keep an eye out for those emails.

It's been a great season, I hope you enjoyed your summer as much as we did! Not everything did great of course. The carrots were slow getting started, we had a break in our lettuce supply, spinach didn't get started on time this fall, and the corn froze out. On the whole it's been a very good year though, and we thank you for being part of it! We really appreciate your commitment to our farm! Your support at the beginning of the season is vital for a successful growing season. Thanks again, and have a great Thanksgiving weekend!
