Farm Happenings for December 15, 2018

Posted on December 9th, 2018 by Jack Manix

Greetings and welcome to week 3 of the CSA. We hope you're happy with your food shares. Please tell us if you have any issues or concerns so we can make it right. This is a new program for us,too. The Harvie support has been great dealing with the problems but it has to be 100% to your satisfaction for us to be happy.

You'll notice some new vegetable choices as we go through the weeks. We experimented for the first time with some late celery and it's turned out great! There'll also be lots of different varieties of potatoes, maybe some you've never tried before. We were hoping to have some crops like broccoli from the fields but the early snow and record cold temperatures squashed that plan. Luckily, the greenhouses are still full and there's lots of storage crops.

This week's specialty item will be Dummerston maple syrup from the Glabach Sugarhouse. If we forgot your specialty item for a late pickup let us know so we can add an extra one this week.

It's been a busy week on the farm. The strawberries received their winter straw mulch, we've finished construction on our new greenhouse and the Elysian Hills Tree Farm has placed a record number of organically grown trees in homes for the holidays. We were also happy to donate to the Trees For Troops program to hopefully make overseas deployment a little more like home. Thanks again for your support and suggestions!
