Farm Happenings for December 19, 2020

Posted on December 12th, 2020 by Jack Manix

Hi Folks, Thanks to almost everyone who remembered to exchange your CSA box this week. If you did forget, you could drop it off sometime during the week if possible. The produce boxes cost us $3 each so we'll have to add that to your CSA eventually so that we can replace missing boxes for our wholesale orders to schools, institutions and contributions to food banks. So far we've been really lucky with the weather which has helped us get things done around the farm in preparation for winter and next season. We're trying to order our seeds and gardening supplies a bit earlier than usual and we suggest that you do so also as those items are supposed to be in tight supply for next year. Most of our seeds come from Johnny's and High Mowings Organic Seeds. We have already ordered our strawberry plants, seed potatoes, ginger roots and soon sweet potato slips from North Carolina. It sure seems that 2021 will eventually be a much happier year than 2020!

We'll be adding Glabach's maple syrup, our beekeeper Pete's honey and pickled vegetables from West River Creamery to the inventory for future pickups after this week. These items were very popular at the farmstand and we think they would make nice holiday gifts while helping to support other local farms. One thing that we've learned from the pandemic is how important all the local farms, CSAs and food related businesses are to all of us. We're lucky to live in an area with such a diverse agricultural community and of course, you, the folks who support our efforts!
