The Fall Harvest

Posted on October 29th, 2019 by Tim Livingstone

The cold weather is starting to replace the summer and the leaves are starting to fall. But for us farmers and our customers, there is a silver lining! The winter box program is about to start and you will be provided with a whole new range of delicious vegetables! The main focus of work on the farm is now the fall harvest. These crops will go into storage and supply you with all of the veggies for your winter boxes. This includes the sweet potatoes, onions, leeks, potatoes, squash, garlic and so much more. The tomatoes have been uprooted to make room in our heated greenhouse for the fresh greens we all love throughout the winter. The kale and the spinach are growing fast. This harvest can get mundane at times but some comedy is sprinkled in; especially with the squash harvest. We struggled to find an efficient way of harvesting it and adopted the game of catch. The pitcher throws the squash across the isle to the catcher, who then places it gently into the bin. Don’t worry, no person or squash is injured in the process, but as always, there are a few clumsy moments.

We hope you enjoy your winter veggies from us and for more updates on farm life follow us on Facebook!
