Farm happenings for October 15, 2021

Jon Ribich & Nathan LeClerc sending potatoes through the potato washer

This week's offerings: New this week are a small container of Brussels sprouts, and the carnival squash (an acorn type but much tastier, we find!); the rest of the items you have been offered at least once already!  With the ongoing heat the eggplant is still coming on well, so we should even get another picking of them in the next week or two.  Same with peppers.  Tomatoes, on the other hand, are calling it quits, so not much left! Some conventional radishes this week also. Lots of other greens again, too -- spinach, arugula, and salad mix.  In the farm store, look up the Kimchi package (including all of the ingredients to make one version of kimchi), and other items we didn't include in the basic list from which Harvie chooses to come up with your suggested list.

Next week:  scallions, daikon radish, or watermelon radish?, beets, purple potatoes, leeks, kohlrabi, carrots?, napa cabbage?, delicata or butternut?, and probably spinach, and arugula, again!

Final deliveries of this season: Several of you have been asking how long the regular season goes -- our last delivery of the regular season will be on November 12th.  If you are on every-other-week member, then your last week could be the week prior to that one.   The week following the November 12th delivery will be our Thanksgiving delivery, which is a delivery that is not included in the regular season, but needs to be signed up for separately.  (Many of you have already signed up for it; if you are not sure, check out your Harvie account!)  If you haven't signed up for it, you can do that at any time (up to a week before the actual delivery) at our website. And speaking of Harvie, we will soon be looking for some feedback from you all if you are happy enough with the Harvie platform to carry on with it.  We find it works fairly well, though not without some issues.  One alternative would be to go back to our old system, where everyone would receive the same line-up of produce, and then still be able to order extra items as needed.  But we'll give you more info soon in a separate e-mail!

December storage share and winter deliveries:  Three weeks after the Thanksgiving delivery (taking place on Nov. 19th), on December 10th, will be the December storage share delivery.  Like the Thanksgiving delivery, the December delivery is a separate delivery from the regular season delivery.  During the rest of the winter, we are likely to do home deliveries, using the Barn2Door platform, every three weeks.  More details later!

Have a great week!
