Farm Happenings for September 19, 2019

Posted on September 17th, 2019 by Peter Seely

Here we are, checking on the progress of the late season carrots.

SHORTER DAYS AND COOLER NIGHTS!

Less light, and heat, for ripening the summer crops like tomatoes.  We definitely didn't have as many tomatoes this season as previous seasons!  A late planting of beefsteak tomatoes is still maturing in the greenhouse; hopefully we'll not have an early frost!  And the recent set of rainshowers means we probably won't have to irrigate much any more this year, though it sure slows up the digging of the root crops.  Lots of variety of available crops, though for many, the end is nigh, including the beans and sweet corn!

ORGANIC APPLES FROM NEIGHBOR DAVE BOHNHOFF

We again are sharing Dave's apples with you this fall.  This week he has bagged up some honey crisp apples.  Nice!  Two sizes to choose from.  Dave follows all organic practices in his small orchard.  Available for inclusion with your box on Friday; order by Wednesday night!  Follow instructions for additional purchases to your share.  Sorry no picture yet for them!  Extremely busy here, as usual!
