Farm Happenings for August 26, 2020

Posted on August 21st, 2020 by Peter Seely

Sam Tilton helping to trial a new German weeder that may potentially help us stay on top of the weeds!

Weeds, weeds:  We continue to battle with weeds which, when left unattended, will inevitably choke out and diminish the harvest of most crops we grow, and we continue to try different equipment, and techniques to help us in that "battle".  This is a hand-operated tool, manufactured in Germany, which drags multiple metal rods through the soil, hopefully pulling to the surface and thereby 'terminating' just recently germinated weeds (while leaving the crop intact, hopefully, which in this case is turnips and radishes, both less popular crops we don't mind experimenting on!)

Peach reminder: For those that ordered peaches, look for a separate box of them at your pick-up site!

Coming soon: more tomatoes, peppers, and the first of the winter squash harvests.  Those that like the roma tomatoes for making sauce can find some in the store for this week's delivery.  As usual this time of year, with so many different vegetables ready to put into your totes, only the large shares have a chance to receive most of them (if not all) in their tote.  The smaller shares and even the medium shares will only receive a percentage of the available veggies, but that can be augmented by either swapping, or purchasing, additional items from the store (which should be available on this e-mail.)   We can use some rain now!  Send some rain clouds our way!

Cheers,

Peter & Bernadette
