Sol Sister Farm Logo Reveal!

Posted on June 18th, 2020 by Matt Johnson

Sol Sister Farm is excited to announce and reveal our logo! This logo embodies much of the Sol Sister Story – a play on the Celtic Sisters knot, which symbolizes our sisterly community bond, held together by the sun with reaching rays. Additionally, Farmer Matt just earned his Master’s of Science in Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development from University College Dublin in Ireland, making our logo a beautiful nod to his education and ancestral background.

If you have been out to the farm, you have seen our three sisters planting. A three sisters plot is an ancient planting of corn, squash, and beans. Each crop has its role to support each other: the corn acts as a trellises for the beans to climb, the beans fix and provide nitrogen to the soil and stabilize corn for wind protection, and the squash offer ground cover with its leaves shading the soil to retain moisture and prevent weeds. We would like to think that the three points of the Sol Sister Knot pay tribute to these cooperative crops.

Sol Sister continues to represent friends, family, and community coming together. Sol Sister Farm could not be possible without the generous help of Em’s mother and father, Dan and Paula. This sisterly love theme is ever-present as Paula is one of three sisters and Dan discovered he had a sister and met her this past year!! And when Matt and Em, met she affectionately called him her soul sister. One chilly March afternoon, when Matt, Em, Dan, and Paula were sitting around the fire pit, they recalled these memories, the significance of sisterly love and the sunny setting of the farm. Thus, the name Sol Sister Farm was born. (Not to mention that SOL also stands for Sh*t Outta Luck, or in this case Schmidt Outta Luck—this felt pretty appropriate at the start of COVID-19).  Being a Sol Sister knows no gender and we think sharing sisterly love doesn’t either. Thanks again for you support --- we are elated to share more fruits and veggies with you on Saturday and for the rest of the season!
