The Second Week of the Spring CSA is here!

Posted on May 10th, 2019 by Tadd Petersen

The second week of our Spring CSA program is here and we cannot wait to share what we have planned for you this week! Our fields and hoops are planted with so many different seasonal varieties such as scarlet kale, hakurei turnips, mustard greens, swiss chard, french breakfast radishes, mini romaine heads and much more. Some of these items will be ready for harvest this week and some will need more time but you can expect to see these fresh ingredients in your CSA share as soon as they are ready.  One item that is available this week is pea shoots and if you have not tried them yet, we want to encourage you to try these as one of the ingredients in your CSA share this week. Pea shoots are the young leaves and stem of a traditional pea plant. They are very young and tender with a sweet pea flavor. Add these to just about anything to elevate your dish with a fresh taste of spring.  They work well as a garnish on a salad or sandwich, tossed in with a quick stir fry or combined with simple ingredients for an impressive pesto. Pea shoots are one of those ingredients you only want to enjoy if they are honestly fresh and recently harvested so we hope you give them a try and let us know what you think!

It was a great first week getting to meet all of you and we had an amazing time during CSA distribution.  Make sure to let us know if you have any questions or comments about the ingredients in your CSA share. Also, make sure to tag us on Facebook and Instagram so we can see all the delicious meals you are preparing. We love to share your ideas with all of our CSA community!

For those that have signed up for a Protein Share, please note this is a bi-weekly distribution so you will not have any items to pick up this week.

As always, let us know if you have any questions and we will see you at CSA distribution.

Thanks!
