Welcome to the First Week of the Summer CSA Program!

Posted on June 29th, 2019 by Tadd Petersen

Welcome to the first week of the Summer CSA program!  We are excited to see all our returning members from the Spring season and welcome some new members to our community.  The hoops have been replanted and the fields are filling up with many new varieties that will be ready for harvest soon.  The early summer season introduces delicious ingredients like Zucchini, Cucumbers and Napa Cabbage while still producing familiar favorites like Salad Mix, Lettuce Heads, Carrots and Beets.

If you have never tried Napa Cabbage, we would like to encourage you to choose it this week in your CSA share.  Just one look at this ingredient and you will know it is not your typical cabbage.  With thick white ribs and crinkly yellow and pale green leaves, this unique item is worth tasting.  It has a more delicate flavor making it easier to eat raw but there are many quick and easy ways you can prepare it and add a crunchy texture to your meals.  Chop it up and throw it in a noodle salad or hot soup.  Use the cabbage to add a crisp bite to dumplings or your favorite sandwich.  Try to impress your guests with a napa cabbage wedge instead of a standard salad.  If you want to spend a little more time in the kitchen, try making your own kimchi or preparing fresh spring rolls with shreds of this ingredient.  It is a very versatile ingredient that will introduce a new flavor to many of your favorite dishes.

As always, let us know what you think!  We love to hear about all the amazing ways you have prepared ingredients harvested from our farm.  It is one of the ways we create an authentic connection from our farm to your plate.

 Thanks!
