? Back to School Buzz and Farm Fun! Join Us on Sunday ??

Posted on August 16th, 2023 by Lynne Schultz

Hello there, cherished farm friends! ??

The school bells are ringing, and a new adventure has begun as Sadie, Michael, and Daniel eagerly embarked on their school journey Thursday. ?✨ The classroom doors are swinging open once again, and we're getting ready to send Lilly off to Kindergarten next week! ??‍? Our home will surely feel quieter without the joyful laughter and pitter-patter of little feet. But, who can blame them? Learning and growing are the most exciting quests!

As for Josh and me, we're scratching our heads, wondering what to do with an empty nest during the day. ?? It's a new rhythm that we're adjusting to, and we're already missing the happy chaos of our little ones.

Now, let's dive into a little farm fun and community goodness! ?? This Sunday, August 20th, from 3 to 5pm, we're inviting you to join us for a volunteer day on the farm. We have a fantastic project that needs some extra hands: picking up those delightful potatoes from the fields. ?? It's a simple yet rewarding task, and every family that lends a hand will take home a bunch of these freshly dug treasures. It's our way of sharing the harvest love with you! ?️?

Besides, this volunteer day is the perfect chance to spend some quality time with us, get to know the farm a little better, and ask any burning questions you might have. It's all about community, laughter, and making memories together.

And let's talk about the flavors of the season! ?? The melon extravaganza is in full swing, with watermelons, cantaloupes, and sugar cubes delighting our taste buds with their sweetness. ?? The fields are alive with vibrant hues, and we're excited to share these juicy delights with you.

But that's not all – tomatoes are ripening, painting the landscape with hues of red, orange, and gold. ?? And those peppers? They're so abundant and full of flavor that they're causing the plants to gracefully bow. ?️?

Let's dive into the world of sweet peppers together! ? These colorful gems bring a burst of joy to every dish, and we're here to help you make the most of them:

Storing Sweet Peppers: Keep them cozy in the crisper drawer of your fridge. For a longer life, you can freeze them after slicing and blanching, then store them in airtight bags.

Prepping Sweet Peppers: Give them a gentle wash just before using. To remove the seeds and membranes, simply cut off the top and scoop them out.

Preserving Sweet Peppers: Pickling and canning are fantastic ways to keep their vibrant flavors alive throughout the year.

Now, for the culinary fun! Here are 7 delectable sweet pepper recipes that will tantalize your taste buds and ignite your kitchen creativity:

  1. Stuffed Sweet Peppers: Fill halved sweet peppers with a delicious mix of rice, ground meat, veggies, and cheese, then bake to perfection.
  2. Sweet Pepper Fajitas: Sauté sliced peppers and onions with your choice of protein, then wrap them in warm tortillas with your favorite toppings.
  3. Sweet Pepper Salad: Toss sliced sweet peppers with fresh herbs, olive oil, lemon juice, and crumbled feta for a refreshing salad.
  4. Grilled Sweet Pepper Skewers: Thread sweet pepper chunks onto skewers, brush with olive oil, grill until tender, and sprinkle with your favorite seasonings.
  5. Sweet Pepper Stir-Fry: Create a colorful stir-fry by sautéing sweet peppers with other veggies and your favorite protein in a savory sauce.
  6. Sweet Pepper Bruschetta: Top toasted baguette slices with a mixture of diced sweet peppers, tomatoes, basil, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze.
  7. Sweet Pepper Relish: Blend sweet peppers, onions, vinegar, sugar, and spices to create a zesty relish that elevates sandwiches and burgers.

As you venture into this sunny weekend, we hope you'll enjoy the vibrant flavors of our farm and the heartwarming community spirit that comes with it. ???

Sending you warm wishes for a weekend filled with joy, laughter, and lots of delicious bites!

With gratitude, The Schultz Family ??
