Important Updates and Tomato Season Delights ?

Posted on August 9th, 2023 by Lynne Schultz

Dear valued CSA members,

As the summer draws to a close and the anticipation of school and soccer season looms ahead, we want to keep you informed about some changes that will help us better manage the customized CSA shares during this busy time.

Starting next week, we'll be adjusting the cut-off times to customize your CSA share. This tweak will ensure that we, despite our shorter staff due to school and soccer commitments, have ample time to carefully pick and pack your CSA bags. Our staff, consisting of just the three of us, will be juggling multiple responsibilities, including the four kids' soccer practices and games, both Josh and I coaching, as well as our nephew and niece joining the soccer action. Our farm and family lives have become an intricate dance of soccer fields and produce fields!

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we navigate this busy period. Your support is invaluable to us, and we're committed to ensuring that you receive the freshest and finest produce in your CSA shares.

Speaking of produce, we're thrilled to announce that our freezers are now fully stocked with beef and pork! So if you've been waiting to savor our locally raised meat options, now is the perfect time to dive in.

Additionally, let's continue the tomato festivities this month! Tomatoes are at their peak, and we're curious: what's your favorite way to enjoy them? One of our cherished tomato traditions is crafting a delicious tomato basil salad. The combination of ripe tomatoes and fragrant basil is a true taste of summer. We'd love to hear about your go-to tomato recipes too!

To inspire your culinary adventures, here are some delightful ways to make the most of this tomato season:

  1. Classic Caprese Salad: Layer slices of tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and basil leaves. Drizzle with olive oil and balsamic glaze for a simple and elegant appetizer or side dish.

  2. Homemade Fresh Tomato Sauce: Turn your ripe tomatoes into a flavorful pasta sauce by simmering them with garlic, onions, herbs, and a dash of red pepper flakes.

  3. Tomato Bruschetta: Top toasted baguette slices with a mixture of diced tomatoes, garlic, fresh basil, and a drizzle of olive oil.

  4. Heirloom Tomato Salad: Celebrate the variety of tomato colors and flavors by creating a colorful salad with heirloom tomatoes, red onions, feta cheese, and a light vinaigrette.

  5. Tomato and Mozzarella Panini: Layer slices of tomatoes and mozzarella between bread slices, then grill until the cheese is melted and the tomatoes are slightly softened.

We hope these ideas add a burst of flavor to your meals and let the vibrant taste of tomatoes shine.

As summer winds down and we gear up for school, we hope you find moments of relaxation and joy in these last few days. Thank you for being part of our farm community, and we look forward to continuing to provide you with fresh and nourishing produce in the coming weeks.

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!

Warm regards,

The Schultz Family ??
