?? Embrace the Melon Magic and Changing Seasons at the Farm! ⚽?

Posted on August 24th, 2023 by Lynne Schultz

Hello, fantastic friends of the farm! ??

Our vehicles have been positively bursting with melon goodness as we joyfully deliver boxes to our wonderful members. ?? As we cruise through our routes, we can't help but notice the subtle shifts in the air, marking the gentle transition of the seasons. ?? The leaves on the field crops are donning a slight tint, and even the flowers are revealing their own transformations.

Amidst these shifts, we've officially kicked off soccer season with Sadie's exciting first game and eagerly await the boys' debut on Saturday. ⚽? While our days are filled with the excitement of the game, we're also gearing up for another event that's right around the corner – the fair! ?? The kids have lovingly prepared their meat chickens, and the countdown to fair is officially on. The hustle and bustle of getting ready for the event has us all on our toes, and there's still so much to do before the big day arrives.

Meanwhile, there's a certain expectant calm on the farm as we await the arrival of Daphene's calf. ?? Her due date came and went, but we're keeping our eyes peeled for the heartwarming moment. Michael is especially patient, eagerly anticipating the start of milking and the delightful taste of fresh milk.

With the changing of the seasons, our food choices are also evolving. ?? Winter squash is ripening, promising hearty and comforting meals to come. And guess what? The first batches of Honeycrisp apples have made their delightful entrance! ??

Speaking of delightful things, our recent volunteer day was a smashing success, and now our potato supply is overflowing! ?? Let's dive into the spotlight of the moment – Red Skin Potatoes! Here's everything you need to know:

Storing Red Skin Potatoes: Keep them in a cool, dark place away from moisture. A breathable bag or crate is perfect.

Prepping Red Skin Potatoes: Give them a gentle wash to remove dirt, and you can leave the skins on for extra flavor and nutrition.

Using Red Skin Potatoes: These versatile spuds are perfect for roasting, boiling, mashing, and even slicing into salads.

And now, the mouthwatering part – here are 7 scrumptious recipes that will let those Red Skin Potatoes shine:

  1. Garlic Herb Roasted Potatoes: Toss chunks of red skin potatoes with olive oil, garlic, and your favorite herbs, then roast until golden and crispy.
  2. Loaded Potato Skins: Scoop out the centers of cooked red skin potatoes, fill with cheese, bacon, and green onions, and bake until bubbly.
  3. Creamy Potato Salad: Mix boiled and diced red skin potatoes with mayo, mustard, herbs, and crunchy veggies for a classic potato salad.
  4. Smashed Potatoes: Boil red skin potatoes until tender, then gently smash them, drizzle with olive oil, and bake until crispy.
  5. Potato and Leek Soup: Simmer red skin potatoes and leeks in broth until tender, then blend for a velvety and comforting soup.
  6. Herbed Potato Wedges: Cut red skin potatoes into wedges, toss with olive oil and herbs, and bake until they're crispy on the outside and soft inside.
  7. Potato Breakfast Hash: Sauté diced red skin potatoes with bell peppers, onions, and sausage for a hearty breakfast treat.

As we embrace the changes around us, we want to extend our deepest gratitude for your continued support. ??️ Wishing you a weekend filled with melon joy, cozy food moments, and the beauty of nature's transformations.

Warmest regards, The Schultz Family ??
