Hazy Days and Abundant Harvests for a Flavorful Fourth of July

Posted on June 28th, 2023 by Lynne Schultz

Dear valued CSA members,

As the hazy days of summer settle over our farm, we find ourselves immersed in the excitement of the approaching Fourth of July festivities. We wanted to share some updates from the farm, including the bountiful harvests and delicious options available for your holiday celebrations.

Firstly, we are thrilled to announce that our tomatoes are ripening beautifully, ensuring a plentiful supply for your Fourth of July feasts. Whether you prefer the classic red, the vibrant yellow, or the burst of flavor from cherry tomatoes, we have you covered. Our tomato plants are thriving, and their juicy goodness will undoubtedly elevate your holiday meals to new heights.

In addition to tomatoes, we have also started harvesting peppers and eggplants. These colorful and versatile vegetables will add a touch of excitement and depth to your summer dishes. Grilled peppers and eggplant slices make fantastic additions to sandwiches and salads, or you can incorporate them into your favorite grilled vegetable medley.

We have great news for our meat lovers as well. Josh will be heading to the butcher shop on Thursday morning, which means we'll have a fresh batch of meat options available by Thursday afternoon. Whether you're planning to grill juicy steaks, savor flavorful sausages, or indulge in mouthwatering burgers, we have you covered with our carefully raised and butchered meats.

To complement your Fourth of July spread, we have an array of farm-fresh produce that will ensure a true celebration of local flavors. Here are some suggestions to spark your culinary creativity:

Coleslaw with Fresh Cabbage: Our crisp and vibrant cabbage is perfect for creating a refreshing coleslaw. Shred the cabbage, add some grated carrots and a tangy dressing, and you'll have a delightful side dish that complements any grilled meat or sandwich.

Broccoli Salad: Our farm-fresh broccoli can shine in a delicious salad. Blanch the broccoli florets, combine them with crispy bacon, diced red onions, dried cranberries, and a creamy dressing. This salad is a wonderful balance of textures and flavors.

Classic Potato Salad: Our new potatoes are ideal for creating a traditional potato salad. Boil the potatoes until tender, then toss them with a creamy dressing, diced onions, and a touch of fresh herbs. This timeless dish is a crowd-pleaser at any summer gathering.

Burger Toppings: Elevate your burger game by adding slices of our juicy tomatoes, fresh lettuce leaves, and thinly sliced onions. These farm-fresh toppings will add a burst of flavor and a touch of crunch to your burgers.

To complete the red, white, and blue theme, we're excited to let you know that we also have blueberries available. These sweet and plump berries will add a patriotic touch to your desserts, parfaits, or simply enjoyed by the handful.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and for choosing to celebrate the Fourth of July with locally sourced, farm-fresh produce. Your commitment to our farm and the local food movement is deeply appreciated.

Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful and delicious Fourth of July celebration. May your day be filled with laughter, good company, and a delightful feast showcasing the best of what our local community has to offer.

With warmest regards,

The Schultz Family
