Posted on June 21st, 2023 by Lynne Schultz

Dear valued CSA members,

We hope this email finds you well and enjoying the vibrant colors of summer. It has been an eventful week here at the farm, with raindrops challenging us to dodge and navigate our way through the fields to ensure a bountiful harvest. We are excited to share the latest updates with you!

Despite the unpredictable weather, our hard work and dedication are paying off as we witness our vegetables truly taking off. The recent rains have provided a much-needed boost, breathing new life into our crops. Our plants are thriving, and their growth is a testament to the care and attention we invest in cultivating high-quality produce for you.

We are delighted to introduce some new vegetables that are making their debut this week in your CSA shares. Get ready to enjoy the freshness and flavors of green beans, new potatoes, and cabbage. These additions are sure to bring a delightful variety to your meals and inspire your culinary creativity.

Today, we want to shine the spotlight on our vegetable of the week: broccoli. This versatile and nutrient-packed vegetable is a powerhouse in the kitchen. Here are a few ideas to make the most of this vibrant green delight:

Steamed Broccoli: Steam broccoli florets until tender-crisp, then drizzle them with a little olive oil and a sprinkle of sea salt. This simple method retains the vegetable's natural flavors and nutrients.

Stir-Fried Broccoli: Heat some sesame oil in a pan, add broccoli florets, and toss them with garlic, ginger, and soy sauce for a quick and nutritious side dish. Feel free to add other vegetables or protein for a heartier stir-fry.

Roasted Broccoli: Toss broccoli florets with olive oil, minced garlic, salt, and pepper, then roast them in the oven until they develop a slight char. The caramelization enhances the natural sweetness of the broccoli.

Broccoli Salad: Blanch broccoli florets in boiling water for a minute, then transfer them to an ice bath to preserve their vibrant green color. Toss the chilled broccoli with diced red onions, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, and your favorite dressing for a refreshing and nutritious salad.

We hope these ideas inspire you to explore the incredible versatility of broccoli and incorporate it into your meals this week.

As always, we appreciate your support and trust in our farm-to-table journey. Your commitment to local, sustainable agriculture is invaluable, and it motivates us to continue providing you with the freshest and most flavorful produce.

Wishing you a week filled with culinary adventures and joyful moments shared around the dinner table.

Warmest regards,

The Schultz Family
